Ankle Surgery Day!! 2/18/2020

Calcaneal Osteotomy with Gastronomic Recession.

******************
If you see any grammar or spelling errors, keep in mind:

1. I'm typing on my phone.
2. I'm on pain meds.

Finally got a couple of hours of solid sleep last night. Packed a bag and hit the road.

The previous 3 nights, I got VERY little sleep, due to nerves & anxiety.

Woke up at 3am, left the Hotel before 4am and
arrived in the hospital parking garage at 4:45am.

I told Chris "I've changed my mind. Let's turn around and go back to the hotel suite." 😂

He just told me to keep walking. 🙄

We checked into Wesley in Wichita at 5:30am.

Surgery at 7:30am

Met my surgical team before 7am.
All of them were very nice.

Except the discharge nurse. She was kinda pissy. Seemed like it "inconvenienced" her, when I asked for more ice and water. 🙄

I made a joke, when the surgery nurse asked "Who is this?"
*Pointing to Chris, in my pre-op room.*

I said, "My Lover."
The nurse laughed 😂 so much!

Chris turned bright RED with embarrassment, and said, "I'm her husband, & she has no filter."

I laughed. It was a much needed rush of endorphins.  😂

The nurse said..."Oh, I've heard it ALL, when I ask that question."

I even made my surgeon laugh out loud. 😯🤯

Which was surprising... because he always seems so serious.

I asked for something to calm me down,
before surgery. I received 2 of Versed.
(Didn't seem to work.)

I almost passed out, when I got my IV put in. 🤷
(It's kinda my "thing.") I HATE needles.

I had to have a cold wash cloth on my forehead, receive oxygen & laid all the way down, flat in my hospital bed.

I asked Chris to take a picture of me, looking all helpless & pitiful.
(It's a TERRIBLE, unflattering picture.) 😂

After surgery, I received nerve block when I was still loopy, in the recovery room.

Both:
Saphenous & Popliteal nerve blocks.
It helped a lot with the post -op pain.  💉💉

These blocks can help with pain & last up to 12-18 hours, according to the Anesthesiologist. Whoohoo!

I was still having a lot of pain, after I woke up, so they gave me Dilaudid. 💉💊

I was dismissed at 11am.

They took out my IV (YAY!!)
IV site is still sore 😣

I was surprised how fast they dismissed me.

My throat is really sore & my voice is "froggy," due to the intubation tube.

I was craving Cake, (REALLY wanted Coconut Cream Cake @ Sams Club, but it's seasonal & not in yet.) ☹️
Can hardly wait for it to be in season again!!!
Mmmm. 🍰

Runner up: Chocolate 🍫 Cake!!
Chris and Sam's Club to the rescue.

I'm all bandage up, & back in our hotel Suite.

Yes, I know I look like Hell.

Groggy from all the meds and trauma to my body.

Chris has really upped his Uber game/care taker status. 😁

(He lost a couple of 🌟's on his Uber review, from me on the way to the hospital. 😉😂)

I took my pain meds, and took a nap in the hotel. 🛌💊

I've got my leg propped up on a memory foam wedge pillow.

I can already tell it's going to be an intense recovery.

It's difficult to hop on my good leg, to get to my wheelchair 👩‍🦽, balance on one leg, pull down my pants and go to the bathroom.

Pretty sure I will have a "Hulk" right leg and a puney atrophied left leg, once all of the 6 weeks NWB activity is done. 🤷🏋️🦵🦿

Thank you to everyone who wished me well & prayed. 🙌

Please keep on praying, and contacting me to see how I am doing.

It means a lot to me.
