It sucks and totally not fun spending today alone. Sad face. But, it has given me time to reflect on our
'Honeymoon from Hell' and re- read the long mini-series that I typed while we were in the room at the compound so I wouldn't ever forget the details of how it all happened.
Part 1:
Tuesday October 18th 2005*
Our alarm goes off at 3:00 AM in Ark City and we get around to hit the road to Wichita. Arrive at the airport around 5:00 AM. My parents took us to the airport so we wouldn't have to leave our cars there.
We grab breakfast at Burger King and my folks waited with us until we had to go through security.
We say our 'goodbyes' and head to the security line about 6:30 AM.
I flippin' got my luggage searched by the lovely TSA,..because of my eyebrow scissors that I had in my makeup bag! The TSA agent said that I couldn't take those on the plane, and if I wanted to keep them I could fill out {a butt-load} of paper work. Then pick them up on our way home from our destination. I said, just toss them in the trash! That was a traumatic experience. :)
Carry on to our gate and wait about 45 minutes. Board the plane and arrive at Dallas/Fort Worth 8:30 AM.
We had to haul ass to our next gate, then fill out Customs and Immigration forms.
Board the flight to Cancun. There is some turbulence and I am a bit freaked out, but then I fall asleep.
Chris moved to the seat in front of us, because there was hardly anyone on this flight. (red flag)
I wake up and see we are over the ocean. It is turquoise-blue waters and so beautiful!
Turbulance again and then a rocky landing, which made both of us nauseated.
Exit the plane and head down the stairs to get our luggage then wait in line for Immigration.
We had to go through, separately because we are not "married" according to the names on the pre-documents.
Next: Customs. The Customs Agent asked what I was claiming to bring into Mexico. I said, "prescriptions"
which followed with more nosy questions about "what kind" they were. I told him Celebrex and birth control pills. He was satisfied with my answer, and then told me to push the button.
The button could say PASS or STOP and if it said STOP you are up for a random search of your bags.
Luckily when I pushed the button is was PASS. I have already had my bags searched once on this trip so far, stinkin' TSA.
As we exit the airport, there were tons of Mexicans eager to carry our bags for us (hellloooo white people and a tip ; ) We carried our own bags until we found our Rental Car Rep. The Rep. called someone to bring our car around. That didnt happen. So, we had to take a "butt-hole puckering" type of scary, wild ride to Advantage Car Rental. The driver almost got into 5 wrecks on those winding roads! Maniac.
The rental car person asked if we wanted insurance, if so, it would be an additional $240- and they didnt take DISCOVER card (which is what we had) We decided we dont need a rental car.
The guy said, "ok, I will take you back to the airport" I'm thinking....WHAT THE???... aw helllll no....
we are NOT going back to the airport.
Another fella that worked there said a Taxi would charge $40 to take us to the Hilton. But, he offered to do it for $30. We agreed. And he took us to our hotel, and was telling us all of the different things we could do while we are in Cancun.
Chris whispered to me..."I'm going to give him $40, for his troubles."
Alrighty, you do that, ya big giver you. Haha
We pull up to the Hilton...and it is amazing!
The Bellman took our bags then gave us baggage tickets and we checked in at the front desk.
Room 512, breathtaking view of the pools and Caribbean.
I tried to keep it as clean as I could, with the Neosporine and band-aid that my over prepared self packed....finally me being a bit neurotic and paid off. :)
Got some grub poolside then back to the pool to swim and relax. Back up to the room for naps. Woke up and walked around the hotel and the property outside.
After a late dinner at an Italian Bistro, we walked on the beach and listened to the waves crash onto the shore. (I can still remember this all so far) :)
Wednesday October 19, 2005*
We wake up to sunlight shining through a small crack in the curtains. Decide to order room service, breakfast in bed. Time for an early morning dip in the pool, and later cocktails at the swim-up pool bar.
Exit the pool and walk on the beach to collect seashells.
The waves are gigantic, and the wind it picking up.
At this point it was just a Tropical Storm.
Clean up in the room for lunch then sat in some lounge chairs to watch the waves crash onto the sand.
Dinnertime, room service and then hot tub time outside! ;)
I am worried about the weather, and thinking to myself..."Hopefully the hurricane wont come here, and if it does, it will only be rain and light wind." HA!
{Can ya tell I'm a Kansas girl who knew nothing about hurricanes?}
I seriously don't want to evacuate, but if we do, I planned on taking both of my suitcases.
Got ready for bed and heard men outside boarding up the windows on the lower floor levels.
Got to sleep around 9 PM, only to be awoken by hard rain and wind
blowing inside the room via the sliding glass doors. We grab towels to soak up the water on the floor.
Head out to walk around on the 5th floor, and we see a lady with some official looking gentleman holding a letter with the number "3" on it.
The letter was posted by the elevator, and basically said....."Pack one bag, with the essential items and be prepared to evacuate inland, to an Elementary school through town.
Finally we try and get some sleep.
