Tornado season

This is my least favorite season of alllll seasons.

Tornado seasons. It is flippin' scary. Period.
Truth: when I was a little kid, I was afraid of tornadoes...and I would go around the house repeating..."we're gonna lose this, we're gonna lose that" over and over....then when I was done with that..I would gather all the animals (dogs and cats) and head to the inner most room of the house, the closet. With a ton of pillows and blankets. Then I tried to force my parents and sister into the closet with me, so they would be safe. ( Not because I was a bossy child ). :) but nooooo.... the family members would just walk outside and look around.

Leap forward to present day.

I still think to myself... we are going to lose this, and that...but I wouldn't mind so much if we lost that object. Because its Chris's. Lol j/k.
Today I was putting laundry away and then decided to give Sophie a bath since she has been sick the past few days. Fever, cough, diarrhea, and really sweaty. Sophie was in the bathtub as the tornado sirens went off for the first time today. I turned off the running water to make sure that's really what I was hearing.
Yep. It was. Then, my phone rings, its Chris calling me from work, I didnt get to the phone in time. Luckily he texts me, says..."tornado sirens just went off, get girls and go into hallway now."
I grab a towel and get Sophie out of the bathtub at lightning speed. Have her sit in the hallway, as I gather pillows and blankets to cover her up. Quinn is in the bathroom....stripping down. She wants to take a bath. NOW. I said No, not now!! I try to keep Quinn in the hallway, as I gather clothes for the girls to wear now, and an outfit for later (just to be prepared.) and pack a bag with diapers, wipes, bottled water and snacks.
Then I think to myself.....hmm I better put on some Pants!! (please don't let the tornado hit right this very minute)  I am only in a Sports bra, tank top and undies.
What I sight we would be, a pants-less mommy, a 4 year old girl in a bath towel, and a 2 year in just a diaper.     LOL
I frantically run around the house getting other items too, medicine, eye-glasses, extra set of clothes for me.
I get another text from Chris.."Better go put the dogs in the garage, tornado is in Caney now."  I slip on my tennis shoes and high tail it to the garage grab the leash's and sprint to the kennel and hook them up so fast and we run to the garage.
Come back inside and decide to brush my teeth. :) and put in my contact lens.
I get a text from a good friend telling me "to take cover, the sirens just went off"  :) Which made me smile. Then I missed a call from another friend, who I am guessing was checking on us, and/or telling us to take cover. It really is incredibly touching for other people to take time to call or text me, in the middle of a tornado warning. :) As freaked out as I was on the inside, but couldn't show it, because of the kids....their texts and calls really just calmed me down and made me happy. So to those of you, (you know who you are) :) thank you for calling and texting!

Then the sirens went off again, so at this point I am thinking... aw crapola!! I yank the sheets and all the stuffed animals off Sophie's bed and drag her Full sized mattress out into the hallway for more protection.
I was trying to NOT run over the kids who were already in the hallway, in the meantime. And, I sprained my left wrist, trying to hurry!! (it still hurts)  :(  thankfully we have good insurance ;) haha

It isnt easy trying to keep a 2 year old in a hallway, contained in such a serious situation. Quinn is running around the house, trying to hunt down Pearl- the cat.  I finally got smart and made a blockade on the open end of the hallway, with the bag I packed for us 3 girls, so it wasn't as easy for Q to escape. :)

Chris comes home a little early, about 4:50pm and we are all still in the hallway. The kids leave me and rush to hug and greet daddy. I, however stay in the safety of the hallway. Then decide to pack a bigger bag with more clothes for the next few storms headed our way. This time, there are nice clothes, under-wire bras and cute panties, and makeup. Plus more comfy practical clothes, sports bras, t-shirts and yoga pants, and put on my important jewelry. Wedding rings etc.

That is the fastest I have EVER packed in my life.
I know someone will read this and think.... "ugh, she is so materialistic ..packing all that "stuff" when all she really needs to be concerned with, is the safety of her kids."

Well...to them I say...the kids were safe, in the hallway with Chris, while I was packing. And, I am a prepared person. If one has time, why not   pack a bag???  You can just sit in the hallway twiddling your thumbs....or pack a bag and be prepared. I chose to pack a bag. Get over it.

I just want to either build a house completely under ground, all bunker-style, so when there is a tornado, I can just keep on keepin' on- and not have to worry about a thing.  OR move somewhere there isn't tornadoes, hurricanes or earthquakes or tsunamis. Know of any places??? :)
