We all woke up at 6 AM and began to pack up our things, stack our lounge mats aka beds and swept the floor of the classroom. Finally 9 AM rolled around and after a hearty breakfast, we waited for the buses. 9:30 AM ....no buses
10 AM...no buses.
While waiting for the buses we took a group picture of everyone in our classroom #2.
We had one last group meeting and our leader, Olga thanked us all for being patient with her and she will miss us all, and took our contact info. so she knew where to mail our luggage to.
Then at 10:30 AM we heard...."The buses are here!!!" such an amazing feeling, to finally put an end to this horrible honeymoon stay. We formed 4 seperate lines and waited for the GM to call our hotel room number out of a hat. Chris and I were the 7th room called to board our bus. Almost everyone from our classroom got to be on our bus, except the family of 4 from Maryland. Which was sad, bevause at this point we were like family, bonded together by a natural disaster.
As Chris and I, and Tim and Jen got settled into the back of the bus, we noticed there were still 4 seats available.
Jen hopped off the bus to grab the Maryland family. :)
Off to Merida, Mexico.....a 5 hour bus ride. Then we had to switch buses at the bus depot. which was really confusing, no one knew which new bus to get on. It got figured out and now we were off to
Villahermosa, Mexico!!! Which was another 9 hour bus ride but it was our FINAL destination, and the closest sister Hilton Hotel to Cancun.
This is what we saw on the way to Villahermosa. A wee bit unnerving....
You have no clue how much I was freaking out and thinking that we too, might be next to get stranded! I kept thinking...."you keep the pedal to the metal, Mr. Bus Driver-man, keep chuggin' along bus!"
We arrived at Villahermosa at 4 AM Tuesday October 25th 2005*
I was in and out of sleep, but when I felt the bus slow down, even without my glasses on, I could recognize the Hilton sign!! YAY! I woke up and Chris said, "We are here!"
Got off the bus and headed inside the hotel. We had 2 choices: check in now, or eat breakfast buffet style in the banquet room.
We chose to check in, so the line would taper off at breakfast.
While Chris and Tim checked us in, Jen and I got in line to buy toiletries and underwear.
Checked into our room, dropped off our bags and headed down to breakfast. There was an unbelievable about of breakfast food there for us to choose from. After we ate we went back to our room to FINALLY take a real shower, {since Thursday morning, FIVE days ago.) and get online to let our loved ones know we were safe and sound.
It was now 6AM and we weren't even tired, so Chris and I had our clothes sent to be cleaned and washed, and lounged around our room. Then decided to walk around the hotel and gift shop.
Met up with Tim and Jen at the hotel restaurant, with a beautiful view the hills and lush green grass.
The Hilton Cancun said they would pay for all of our rooms, meals, tips and taxes included. Gave us an international calling card and helped us make flight arrangements to get back home.
That Tuesday night, we slept soooooo good! At last, a real bed and showers!
Wednesday October 26th 2005*
After we ate breakfast Jen and I got Swedish Massages at the spa. It was wonderful! EXCEPT for the creepy masseuse guy who barely spoke any English. To this day, I am not completely sure what he kept asking me, over and over again. But, I think it was..."Pressure good?" I said..."yep"..reluctantly, because I was not clear on what he was asking, or what I was agreeing to! :) Keep in mind, this was my first massage EVER.
I just found it odd that his hands traveled up under my sheet muuuch higher than any other masseuse's (after him) have. Too close for comfort! Was he thinking I wanted a Happy Ending?? El Creepo!

| Gym/Spa area.... *shiver at the though* |
Then all four of us just relaxed the rest of the day.
Chris made our flight arrangements out of Mexico, and was on hold for almost an hour.
The four of us headed to the outdoor Jacuzzi. When we got out there, it was a bit chilly.
So, Jen and I went to the Jacuzzi inside the spa. (and I was hoping that my creepy masseuse dude wasn't anywhere to be seen....and had made up my mind that IF I did see him I would try and not make any eye contact. :)
After that, we said our good-byes to Tim and Jen. They were heading out early in the morning (Wednesday)
Then we all headed to bed. (in our separate rooms, of course.;)
Thursday October 27th 2005*
Chris and I woke up early and I headed down to the salon to get my acrylic nails filled in (from the wedding)
I got to the salon and had to wait a while for the nail tech to arrive. When she finally decided to show up, she barely spoke any English and brought in her own tools.
I was getting worried, as when I told her what I wanted (a nail fill) she didnt know what that was!!
Just as she was fitting my thumb for a new nail, (that I had previously lost earlier that week)
I had this sharp pain in my stomach. I think it was my gut feeling telling me that this seemed like a shady deal.
So.... I naturally, I found the receptionist that was a little more fluent in English and said that I wasn't feeling good. (Which was true), and I would have to reschedule for a later time. (okay, so that part was not true)
As soon as I left the salon, I felt very relieved. :)
When I got back to the room, Chris wanted to checkout the airport to check on our tickets out of this nightmare .
We arrived at the Villahermosa airport and the ticket counter lady said we only had "reservations" but still needed to pay to the tickets. Ummm..no biotch....my husband just spent an hour on the phone with American Airlines who said that our tickets would be paid for.
Back to the hotel we go, told them the situation and they took care of it. :)
repeat after me...."Happy wife...happy life" :) haha
Made a quick trip to none other than *drum roll please*.... Walmart! Man, those little buggars truly ARE everywhere! :) Bought some snacks, clothes and had to fart around for an hour until our ride came back to pick us up.
Off to bed we go for a good nights rest, before our flight out on Friday morning.
Wake up, ate breakfast, packed our smidgen of belongings that we had. Shuttle took us to the local airport and it was BUH-BYE Honeymoon from Hell! yippppeee!
That was the easiest security to go through. ever.
Waited to board our plane to Mexico City then a connecting flight to Wichita.
My parents picked us up at the airport and were completely happy to see us (alive and well)
and took us for a celebration dinner to The Olive Garden. nom, nom, nom.
We told them about our lovely trip and then tried to forget it ever happened.
Though,... I wont ever forget that massage!
PS- on the first day we were there- (when I got my toe cut in the ocean)- my new husband got rocked by a big wave....and lost his wedding ring!!!!
If you are wondering if I was upset.... the answer is YES!! I was incredibly pissed.
I mean, helleerrrrr, why didn't he just leave it in the room before we went to frolic in the ocean (like I left my in the room.)
The End.
Hope y'all enjoyed reading this long-ass story of our Honeymoon! :) Feedback is much appreciated.
